Forestry & Sourcing

Meticulous selection of white oak trees in the Appalachians and beyond, ensuring exceptional log quality.

An Exceptional Wood Supply Chain

At OAKING, we rely on our network of excellence to ensure a secure supply of premium-quality wood products. Among our cornerstone partners in the wood supply chain, Graf Brothers stands as a true embodiment of this commitment to quality.

Two Complementary Sourcing Strategies for Full Control

Standing timber purchases

Our timber selection is based on two main sourcing approaches, both driven by high standards of quality and a deep respect for forest ecosystems.

The first involves the purchase of standing timber, directly from forest owners — whether private or public. These acquisitions, often made through auctions, allow us to maintain complete traceability, from the living tree to the finished product.
Before each acquisition, our timber buyers conduct a detailed assessment of the stand, evaluating its quality, density, harvestable volume, and natural regeneration potential.
Harvesting is then carried out by trusted logging partners, chosen for their adherence to sustainable forest management practices.

Log purchases

In parallel, we also source harvested logs from selected sawmills and timber brokers. These logs are pre-selected according to our strict internal criteria, ensuring consistency, reliability, and optimal technical performance.

Whether sourced standing or already felled, all logs are transported to our production facilities — such as the South Shore plant in Kentucky — where they are transformed into high-end lumber, flooring, and premium-quality staves.
